Tally Teleprompter · last updated 19 October 2026

Tally is a teleprompter. Your scripts and takes stay on your iPhone, or in your own iCloud. Tally’s server never sees them unless you ask the writers’ room for writing or research.

The writers’ room

When you ask for writing or research, what you wrote — the brief, or the script being revised — is sent to Tally’s server, which passes it to OpenAI to write the reply and sends the reply back to your phone. The server does not keep what you sent or what came back. OpenAI handles it under its own policies.

Proving it is really Tally

So that only Tally can use the server, each install proves itself with Apple’s App Attest. The server keeps that install’s public key, and a record of when it asked for something, which is deleted after a day.

Subscriptions and free drafts

Apple handles payment, and Tally never sees your payment details. To confirm a subscription, or to count free drafts, the app sends the server Apple-signed records of your subscription and of your download of Tally. The server keeps a one-way hash of the download’s identifier and how many free drafts it has used. When there is no download record to go by, it counts free drafts against the install’s App Attest key instead, which it already keeps. For a day it also keeps a one-way hash of a subscription’s identifier, so that one subscription cannot be shared across many devices. It keeps nothing else.
